PLOT SUMMARY
Passing Over is a poignant, intimate play exploring a teenage boy’s first profound encounter with impending death in the family. Toby returns home from a camping trip to learn that his beloved grandfather, Popi, has taken a sudden turn for the worse and is nearing the end. Struggling to express his grief, Toby initially insists he is “fine,” but gradually opens up during a heartfelt conversation with his mom. He insists on visiting his grandfather alone, where caregiver Eva offers quiet support as Toby shares cherished stories from Popi’s memoirs. The play culminates in Toby’s tender farewell, leaving Toby to process his grief with newfound emotional honesty.
